  • Shark Diving in Australia

Australia is probably the country in the world with the most diversified shark diving possibilities. You can do everything from a morning tank shark dive in an aquarium in Sydney or Melbourne to a several-day live-aboard Great White Shark dive from Adelaide or Port Lincoln.

    Aquarium Shark Diving

The easiest way to try to try shark diving is in an aquarium. Australia has several places where it is possible.

The best aquarium shark diving is in Sydney, Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast. In Sydney you can even feed the sharks.

On a tank shark dive you will encounter shark species like: Grey Nurse Sharks, Leopard Sharks, Whitetip Reef Sharks, Shovel Nosed Sharks, Whaler Sharks and Wobbegongs Sharks You do not have to be a certified diver to do a shark dive. If you have not dived before, you will get an introduction course first. You can also use the aquarium shark diving as a tune-up course, if your diving skills are a little “rusty”.

A shark dive in an aquarium is a great birthday gift. And your friends and family can watch the shark diver from the outside of the tank.

All adults in normal health can do the shark diving.

    Great White Shark Diving

A totally different experience is Great White Shark diving. Even though it is possible to go on a Great White Shark diving expedition from Sydney, the main departure points are Adelaide and Port Lincoln in South Australia.

Most of the Great White Shark diving trips will be heading for the Neptune Islands (around 70 kilometers south-south east of Port Lincoln).

Here you will see an array of wildlife, including many bird species, thousands of fur seals, dolphins and the rare Australian sea lion.

But the main attraction is of course the Great White Shark cage diving. The area is the natural feeding ground of the Great White Shark, which makes it a fantastic experience.

Normally you will start the cage diving in the surface cages. The submersible cage dives usually wait until the second day.

Both divers and non-divers can do the expedition. If you are not a certified diver, you just stay in the surface cage.

The best time for Great White Shark diving is around February and from late May through to October.

  • Motorbike Racing 101

Motorbike enthusiasts come from all walks of life, and own motorbikes for a whole variety of different purposes. Some for long distance off- road travel, some for travel to work of a morning and other more extreme enthusiast for racing!

Different types of racing can test a drivers riding skills and techniques, whether a beginner or long- term fan, there are many different types of racing to choose from.
Motorcycle racing is also known as moto or bike racing. The sport involves racing motorbikes, and there are two main categories; tarmac based road disciplines and off road racing.

Road racing can be either motorcycle races are run on specially built, closed circuit courses, or using public roads which become are temporarily closed for conducting a race. For example the Targa Florio is a popular race. The most famous of this type however is likely to be The Tourist Trophy, which takes place over the Snaefell Mountain Course,
Closed circuit race tracks require a variety of skills from a racer due to its turns and curves, even though these are purpose built they resemble road courses.

Grand prix racing also exists, this is the premier category of motorcycle road racing, these are purpose built machines which cannot be bought for general use or ridden illegitimately.

Another type is super-sport bike racing which employs modified production motorcycles, motorbikes must have a four-stroke engine of between 400 and 600cc for four-cylinder machines, and between 600 and 750 cc for twins. There are many tight regulations and provisions with this type of racing.

Next, is endurance racing. The aim of this type of racing is to examine and test the durability of equipment and endurance of the riders. Set up either to cover a set distance in laps as in a time frame or to cover as much distance as possible in the fastest time. This is very demanding on the racer but high with adrenaline

Motocross is another popular type. This is off road, bikes on closed circuits. The circuits come in a variety of forms such as mud and grass and involve elevation levels. Jumps are often included in which bikes are able to become airborne. At the start line are many racers, about 40 riders on average. The first to cross the finish line is automatic winner. There are a wide variety of classifications and grouping based on machine displacement in Motocross.

The final type to be mentioned here is super cross racing. This is indoor motocross, and often more technical. Taking place in a stadium or arena it involves various difficult jumps. It is incredibly popular in the United States but less so in Eurpoe, where Motocross dominates.

  • How Can You Start Flying?

It has never been easier to fly than today. And if you only dream flying and don’t do it, that could be just because you don’t know how to start.

Of course flying is not the cheapest hobby you may have, but it’s not that expensive that many people think. Today there are options for everyone to fly, no matter of their wallet size, location or age.

Let’s explore the opportunities which allow the ordinary person to start flying without too much efforts or too high expenses.

    Paragliders

One of the most popular flying activity and sport today is paragliding. Paragliding is relatively cheap and fairly safe. The average fatality rate per thousands USHGA members per year for the last 15 years is only 0.88.

There is no license required for flying a paraglider, but if you have no experience at all, it’s recommended to attend some education in any of the thousands paragliding clubs all over the world.

A new paraglider costs about GBP 2,000 while a second hand can be found for much less. Professional fly training typically costs between GBP 500 and GBP 1,000.

There are motor paragliders who are probably the simplest powered flying machine. The motor paragliders (paramotors) let you start flying from the ground without the need of hills or winches.

    Hang Gliders

Hand gliding is much elder sport. The first hang gliders have been invented at the end of 19th century. The main difference between the hang gliders and the paragliders is that the former have hard fixed wing. Modern hang gliders give you the ability to soar for hours and fly over large distances.

The hang gliders are more appropriate for performing aerobatics than the paragliders. The hang gliders are also capable of flying at much higher speed.

Hang gliding is considered a bit more advanced activity, but the cost of equipment and training is almost the same or slightly higher than paragliding’s.

    Skydiving

Skydiving is not exactly flying, but is also a very popular sport. It’s also known as parachuting.
For a typical skydiving jump you need an aircraft - usually an airplane, helicopter or even a balloon - which to raise you to about 4,000 meters attitude.

The specific and exciting moment in skydiving which is driving so many people to it is the free fall for 1,000 - 2,000 meters before opening the parachute.

Skydiving is rather safe activity and most incidents are due to lack of experience when performing advanced techniques.

Because you need an aircraft to raise you up, the price of skydiving raises with each jump you make. The equipment is not very expensive and can be hired, but the cost of the jumps is raising all the time because of the growing fuel prices.

    Ultralight Gliders

If you are looking for more advanced fly you may want to try ultralight gliding. The ultralight gliders are unpowever airplanes which can soar for hours and have basic control systems. Unlike the hang gliders, the pilot’s body here is seated and there could be even a cockpit, although that’s not always the case.

The main disadvantage of the ultralight gliders is that you need a powered airplane or a tower-winch system to help you start flying.

The costs of the gliders and their support is much higher - starts from about USD 10,000 and sky is the limit for the top prices.

Training can be obtained at the gliding clubs all over the world and it’s also more expensive.

    Ultralight Aircrafts

Finally, if you are really keen on being a pilot, don’t want to depend on hills, mountains, winches or other aircrafts, you may want to think about flying your own ultralight aircraft.

The ultralight aircrafts are fully functional powered airplanes, helicopters or autogyros. They don’t need help to start flying and can be used not only as a tool for leisure and sport, but also for practical purposes.

Unfortunately you need a license to fly an ultralight aircraft. Depending on where you live, you may need an LSA license or license for ultralight/microlight pilot. The training costs several thousands GBP.

Flying ultralight aircraft can be quite expensive, but there are many options to cut down the costs and complexity and enjoy this wonderful activity.

There is a lot more to learn about the ultralight airplanes and helicopters. If you are willing to get into this, visit my site for introduction to ultralight aviation - http://ultralight-airplanes.info
